Plant fiber-based architecture today

The use of fast-growing plant-based materials is a huge opportunity to store a large amount of carbon now, and thus combat climate change. Housing, equipment or activity buildings, the 50 bio-based buildings described in this book were chosen from among the 226 candidates for the FIBRA Award, the world’s first prize for contemporary plant fibre architecture. Made of bamboo, thatch, straw, palm leaves, bark, North Sea or Andean herbs, or even mushroom bricks, these inspiring examples from 45 countries encourage the rediscovery of abundant and cheap materials, whose transformation requires little energy.
